The Garden Party wrap is a fun new crochet pattern with worked diagonally in color block sections. Read through to find out all the details!

Concept and Design

I love designing layering pieces like this. The Garden Party wrap is worked from corner to corner, diagonally. It is a very versatile design in that it can be made to any width and length. I first found the yarn in these beautiful, spring shades of blue, green, and peach. Then, I thought of the best way to showcase the yarn – big color block sections! The wrap is made from simple crochet stitches so this design really does let the yarn do all the work.

The Garden Party wrap is super fun to make and works up pretty quickly. It’s a great layering piece for those breezy spring and summer nights. Plus, the color combinations are endless. Whether you decide to color block it like I did, use variegated yarn, or make yours completely solid – it will definitely be a well used piece in your wardrobe!

Yarn

Earlier this year, I began selling hand dyed yarn and it was so much fun to design a new pattern using yarn that I dyed myself! I think the semi solid colors I chose for the Garden Party wrap really work well together. They are also a bit more vibrant and colorful than my norm (it’s fun to work outside the box and try new combinations, right?!). Then, I created the variegated/speckled skein that incorporates all of the solid colors so that they paired together seamlessly. You can most certainly make each color block section larger if you have more yarn. I had one skein of each color and worked until I ran out of yarn.

As always, you can substitute with any #3 DK weight yarn in the colors of your choosing. Ideally, I would think that any weight yarn #1 sock through #4 worsted would work well for this design. Just keep in mind that your yardage and hook size will vary depending on what weight yarn you choose.

Materials Needed

  • Any DK (#3) or thin worsted (#4) weight yarn in the colors of your choosing. I used Smiley Goose Fibers hand dyed, DK weight yarn in Fern, Garden Party, Pretty Peachy, and Denim – 1 hank (246 yards) of each color or approximately 984 yards total.
  • US size 7 (4.5 mm) hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Foam mat, T pins, and steam iron/garment steamer
