Concept and Design

I really love the look of an extended single crochet (ESC) and the Ava baby blanket is made working 2 ESC together. This makes for an even more beautiful stitch and unique texture. The fabric it creates is pretty stretchy and slightly open making this a great light weight blanket.

Ava Baby Blanket

I originally planned to make the Ava baby blanket in one solid color but added in some striping at the last minute. I debated cream or white, and I like the contrast of the white with the purple better. I would think that any color or combo would look really nice.

If you love this stitch like I do, you might want to also check out my Ava infinity scarf and Ava ear warmer/scarf set.

Yarn

There are SO many great yarns from WeCrochet and Brava worsted is one of my favorites. It’s incredibly squishy and soft, very affordable, and comes in so many different colors. You could also easily alter the size of the Ava baby blanket to make it throw sized. In that case, I would make a fall inspired combo in Persimmon/White, or solid Currant would be gorgeous!

Of course, you can substitute any worsted/aran (#4) weight yarn for this project.

Thank you to WeCrochet for providing the yarn for this project!

  • Chain 2 at beginning of row does not count as a stitch.
  • Each chain-1 space and ESC2TOG counts as 1 stitch each.
