The Kayson shawl is a new crochet pattern with beautiful colors and elegant texture. Read through to find out all the details!

Concept and Design

I really enjoy making oversized, lightweight shawls. They are the perfect layering piece pretty much all year long and can be worn as a shawl/wrap or triangle scarf. The Kayson shawl is made using an altered half double crochet stitch which creates a unique texture that is just stunning! I first used this stitch to make the Kayson scarf and it turned out so beautifully that I also made the Kayson baby blanket. Since then,  I wanted to create the look in a triangle/wrap design.

The Kayson shawl is worked from the top down, working one slanted side, a chain 2 space, and then working the second slanted side. You can also easily make this shawl any size using the 1 row repeat until your desired dimensions. As with any of my designs, you can always add a fun border, tassels, or fringe to make your shawl one of a kind!

Yarn

I had this Hobbii Twister cake in my yarn stash for quite a while with no real plan for it. I just really loved the colors in it; teal is one of my favorites and is so pretty with this mauve-y pink. The yardage in a Hobbii Twister cake is pretty impressive at 1094 yards! I definitely wanted to use every color since they were all so beautiful together but also thought it might be too much yardage and the shawl would end up too large. However, I decided to try it anyway and Iā€™m glad I did because the shawl turned out to be the perfect size! And, a huge bonus: only 2 ends to weave in!! I am a big fan of these variegated cakes because you get all that color and very few ends to weave in.

If you decide to use the same yarn, Hobbii Twister cakes come in 36 gorgeous color combos!

Of course you can always substitute with any yarn and weight of your choosing. Whether you decide to color block, all solid, or use variegated yarn ā€“ your scarf will still have amazing drape and texture!

Materials Needed

  • Ideally, any sock, sport, DK, or worsted weight (#1-4) yarn should work for this project. I used 1 cake of Hobbii Twister (#2 weight) in Aruba (color #25), approximately 1090 yards.
  • US size F/5 (3.75 mm) hook, or recommended hook for yarn used
  • Tapestry needle
