Etta Beanie Crochet Pattern

The Etta beanie is a new crochet hat pattern with lots of texture. Read through to find out all the details!

Concept and Design

If you are familiar with my patterns already, you know that I love texture! The Etta beanie design features the lemon peel stitch and is one of my favorites. It’s super easy to follow and the result is stunning. I have already used this stitch in a long scarf and infinity scarf design and thought it would also make a great beanie. Not to mention, if you pair them together, you would have a great scarf and hat set 😊

Etta Beanie

I usually prefer to work my hats from the bottom up so that’s how I designed the Etta beanie. The hat ribbing is worked flat then sewn together to form the hat band. The hat body is then worked in the round and cinched closed. Cinching the top of the hat cuts down on decrease stitches/rows and is easily covered by a pom pom (if you are using one). As with all my hat patterns, the Etta beanie pattern includes 3 sizes: Toddler (1-2 years), Child (3-10 years), and Teen/Small Adult.

Yarn

I love Hobby Lobby’s yarn line, I Love this Yarn and Yarn Bee. For the Etta beanie, I used Yarn Bee Sweet Divinity in Blush for the Toddler size (1 skein, or 100 yards) and Grey Clouds (1 skein, or 185 yards) for the Teen/Small Adult. Sweet Divinity is a worsted (#4) weight , beautiful semi-solid yarn. It’s thinner than most worsted yarns so you could also use a DK (#3) weight yarn if you like.  I used my own hand dyed yarn, Smiley Goose Fibers, DK (#3) weight yarn (1 hank, or 140 yards) in Cotton Candy for the Child size (my 6 year old daughter fell in love with color way and specifically asked for it 😊). Whether you choose a solid or variegated yarn, the texture still shines through and will look amazing!

  • Any worsted or DK weight yarn, either solid or variegated.
  • US size 7  (4.5 mm) hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Faux fur pom pom (optional)
