The Ren scarf is a new Tunisian crochet pattern that has tons of beautiful texture. Read through to find out all the details!

Concept and Design

I learned Tunisian crochet late last year and it has become one of my favorite ways to crochet. I have tried to knit several times over the years and I never could quite get the hang of it. Tunisian is the perfect compromise and there are so many new stitches to learn and experiment with! I have included a lot of working pictures and an extra PDF with Tunisian crochet tips to help you complete this project.

Ren Scarf

The Ren scarf is made using the Tunisian honeycomb stitch (alternating simple and purl stitches). I was intimidated for a long time by the purl stitch. Toni Lipsy of TLYarnCrafts hosted a crochet a long (CAL) in the spring for her Loveland Shawl and that’s when I learned the purl stitch. If you are a knitter, it will not be a problem! This scarf is very customizable in that you can make it to your desired dimensions with a 2 row repeat.

Yarn

Hobby Lobby’s yarn quality and selection has really improved over the last few years. They have several comparable yarn lines that match the quality of their competitor’s but the prices are much more affordable. (And, if your store is like mine, all yarn is 30% off every other week – you will find me wandering the yarn aisles on these weeks). Anyway, I stumbled across their I Love this Yarn Print in Cinnamon Cedar and thought the colors were just perfect for Fall. Once I got it home and worked up a swatch, it turned out beautifully!!

Ren Scarf

Any worsted (#4) weight yarn will work for this scarf. I love using variegated yarn because you get so much color and very few ends to weave in. Whether you choose solid or variegated yarn, the texture still shines through and your scarf will look amazing!

Materials

  • Any worsted (#4) weight yarn. I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love this Yarn Print in Cinnamon Cedar (2 skeins, or 445 yards).
  • US size J/10 (6 mm) Tunisian Crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Cord with stopper (optional)
  • Tapestry needle
